WINES OF THE YEAR
These are the 12 wines we discovered
in 2026 that inspired us most. Our
team tasted over 700 wines this year,
rating each one on quality, value and
our 'Would I want another glass?'
scale of 1 to 10. Narrowing it down was
never going to be easy, but we're
delighted to present what we believe
are the 12 best wines in independent
retail in Ireland in 2026. The six reds
and six whites are available as a
mixed dozen, one bottle of each, with
15% off while stocks last, or as a sixbottle case of all reds or all whites
(see page 21 for pricing).
Brolio Chianti Classico, Tuscany, Italy
From the historic Ricasoli estate, where Baron
Bettino Ricasoli set down the original Chianti
recipe in the 1870s. Ripe cherry, plum and spice,
with polished tannins, freshness and a long,
refined finish. Superb value at €27, and brilliant
with pasta, roast meats or an antipasto board.
Casino Nitti San Paolo Fiano
di Avellino, Campania, Italy
One of our favourite new finds
of the year. Campania's
volcanic soils give this
expressive white aromas of
broom, acacia, chamomile and
mandarin, with a rich, fresh
palate and an exceptionally
long finish. Incredible at this
price.
The overall Red and White Wines of
the Year will be announced from
the shortlist on Tuesday 17th
November. Sign up to our newsletter

Château Cambon La Pelouse,
Haut-Médoc, France
From the outstanding 2018 vintage,
with blackcurrant, cedar, tobacco
and graphite over polished tannins.
The warm year brings richness, but
the classic Médoc structure
remains, and it's drinking
beautifully now. Classified-growth
class without the price tag.
Domaine de la Provenquière
Vermentino, Hérault, France
Mediterranean sunshine in a bottle!
Zesty citrus, ripe pear and white
peach, with delicate floral notes and a
lovely mineral finish. Bright, elegant
and incredibly easy to drink, with
enough texture to feel genuinely
premium.
19
Heaphy Estate Pinot Gris, Nelson, New Zealand
A stand-out favourite at our Summer Wine
Festival in June. Fragrant and beautifully
textured, with ripe pear, peach and apricot, and
old Moutere vines give it real depth. Pinot Gris
with substance and pedigree, and 93 points to
prove it.
